Parking reforms in Sacramento, CA

Parking minimum removal

There are currently no minimum parking requirements in the Central Business & Arts/Entertainment District for all land uses. In this district, commercial land uses have parking maximums. The city adopted a housing plan in 2021 which called for further eliminating city-mandated parking minimums and explore instituting parking maximums along established transit corridors. The General Plan passed in February 2024 and implemented in March 2024 will require the city to update the zoning code to eliminate parking minimums citywide. Although the zoning code has yet to be updated, the general plan policy of no minimums will prevail in the interim.
