Parking reforms in Illinois, IL

Parking minimum removal

The Local Parking Regulation Act was introduced on January 31, 2024 and would limit the ability of a unit of local government from imposing minimum parking requirements on a development project if the project is located within one-half mile of a public transportation hub. While this bill did not progress through the legislature, a similar bill was introduced in 2025. A state report from September 2024 recommends replacing parking minimums with maximums, particularly near transit.
